Cork is a blessing to all. Obviously it keeps our wine fresh. But do you know it helps the planet go green? Yes, it is much more than that. This rustic looking material can be transformed into an unexpected form of bags, dresses, yoga mats and other fashion accessories.
The characteristics of this eco-friendly and sustainable material go unnoticed by many. So take a journey with us to know more about this greenest material available on our planet.
How is Cork Harvested?
Cork is harvested by shaving the layers of bark, usually on the cork oak tree. This layer is called the phellem layer. It is composed of a hydrophobic material that has unique characteristics like it is impermeable, buoyant, elastic, and fire-retardant. The layer naturally grows back, so cork products are as kind to the planet as they are chic.
It is estimated that every year cork oak forests retain up to 14 million tonnes of CO2, a sizable contribution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the main cause of climate change. The most surprising is the fact that cork oak increases its ability to absorb these gases during the natural regeneration process following stripping.

Cork Yoga Mat
A yoga mat is the most essential part of every yogis’ practice. It provides base and grip to support a yogi through the whole session. That is why it is very important to choose the right one.
We handcraft our yoga mats with sustainable material cork. The texture of it provides soft subtle extra padding to your knees. Unlike any other yoga mat which becomes slippery while practising hot yoga, cork can really stick through the sweatiest times. It happens because cork contains suberin, a waxy, grippy substance that is released when wet. The grip is actually increased the more you sweat.
Sticking to one of the best characteristics, cork is also very light in weight. Yes, over 50% of cork’s volume is made of air. So, it becomes easy for everybody to carry it around while travelling.
Cork Wallets
Industries like fashion and design have been increasingly aware of the need to look for more sustainable material. Such materials that are both unharmful to animals and the environment, and capable of contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable world.
Cork scores the best. So to create less impact on our surroundings we have evolved the fashion industry by designing cork wallets. It’s one of the best alternatives to leather and plastics. This fabric is strong flexible, maintains itself, and versatile, making it an easy choice.
All our wallets are natural, lightweight and waterproof. So, be assured your product is made to last.
